Golf Course Staff

 Superintendent: Jason Sanderson

Jason has been at Cherokee since September of 2000. He was promoted to Superintendent in January of 2004. He graduated from the University of Tennessee in May of 2000 with a degree in Ornamental Horticulture and Landscape Design. He has been a member of the Golf Course Superintendent’s Association of America (GCSAA) since 1999. Prior to coming to Cherokee, Jason worked at Councilfire Golf Club in Chattanooga, he also did internships at Lookout Mountain Golf Club and Gatlinburg Golf course while attending UT.

 Assistant Superintendent: Michael Martin

Michael was hired by Jason as an intern in the summer of 2005. After he graduated from Walters State with his degree in Turfgrass Management he was hired as an assistant superintendent. Prior to coming to Cherokee he worked at Oneida golf course for seven years in both the pro shop and on the golf course. He is an avid golfer and plays to a 5 handicap. Michael aspires to be a superintendent at a private club

     

Mechanic: Kenneth Browning

Kenneth has been here at Cherokee since 1979. He has done every maintenance task on the golf course. His experience is his best asset.

Mechanic: Jerry Payne

Jerry started at Cherokee in 1997. Jerry takes care of all large mowers on a daily basis and any major equipment failures. He is also responsible for part inventories and for placing all part orders.

Small Project Leader: Lenny Herre

Lenny has worked at Cherokee since 1998. He is involved with most large scale projects and trained to operate all machinery. Also possesses some electrical skills. Involved with mowing or range setup most every morning and mows our rough areas throughout the year.

Crew Leader: Jarrod Russell

Jarrod has worked at Cherokee since 1998. Jarrod leads group maintenance activities and involved in most of our project work. When it is necessary he serves as a third mechanic and likely a future assistant mechanic. Jarrod is trained to operate all machinery and possesses some irrigation skills. He is involved with mowing, and range setup most every morning in addition to leadership responsibilities.

Course Setup/Equipment Operator: Jim Cramer

Jim has worked at Cherokee sine 1999. He is involved with course setup almost every day. Jim is an avid golfer who plays to a 14 handicap. Jim retired from Delta Airlines in 1998 and has worked here since moving to Knoxville.

We have several other employees who are considered seasonal.
